Marty Thornton is a visual artist and writer. Born in Galway in the West of Ireland, Thornton initially trained as a painter before crossing over onto celluloid, where he began to present an intense personal vision of his world through the lens of his Cine-camera. He graduated from The Scottish Film School in 1996. His work has showcased throughout the UK. He returned to Ireland to undertake a Masters degree in Screenwriting at DLIADT in 2001, after which he wrote ‘BLACK MILK’, in conjunction with Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board.
Throughout this time, Thornton continued to paint & photograph. Drawing on themes of both cultural and subcultural iconography, his work has been described as visually arresting yet beautifully uneasy. He has exhibited work with Artstore, Dublin and Bród & Project06, Galway. Most recently he produced audio-visual art for Absolut Art Collection in conjunction with Galway Arts Festival 2010. He continues to sell to private commision.
